THE LORD SHALL REIGN FOREVER AND EVER

THEME: THE LORD SHALL REIGN FOREVER AND EVER
SUB-THEME: THE POWER OF HIS REIGN.
TOPIC: BELIEVERS’ AUTHORITY IN CHRIST.
TEXT: Mark 16:14-20
AIMS: (i) To understand why Christians have received
delegated power from Christ Jesus.
(ii) To know how best to exercise the power to
promote His reign in their lives.
INTRODUCTION: Before His death, Jesus delegated
authority to His disciples to cast out demons, heal the sick
etc. (Matt.10:1). Prior to His Ascension (to heaven), He
commissioned His disciples to take the Gospel to all parts
of the world (Matt.28:18-20). In addition to these,
beleivers have the power of attorney to approach the
Throne of grace, and receive all they need from God’s
treasury. The power of sonship is the key to them all (John
1:12; Rom.8:14-16). It is these elements in the package of
God’s power delegated to the believers that are called “the
authority of believers”.
STUDY GUIDE
1. What is authority? How is it usually originated? Cf
Matt.8:9; Rom.13:1.
2. What types of authority has the LORD delegated to
believers? Mark 16:15-17; Luke 10:19; John 1:12;
Rom.8:14-17.
3. In which ways are believers expected to utilise their
authority in Christ? Prov.29:2; Matt.7:29; Luke 4:32; 9:1;
Rom.8:15 & 5:1,2
4. How is God’s reign enhanced by our exercise of His
authority? Cf Exod.8:18,19; Acts 9:42; 13:12.
CONCLUSION: Believers derive all authority from God as
a result of their new relationship with Him. By it, they can
reign with Him and occupy until He returns. It will be sad,
however, if believers fail to exercise this authority.
Food for Thought: Authority not exercised is authority
abused, a chagrin to the LORD. ][chagrin: shameful failure] Memory Verse: Luke 10:19.
Behold, I give you the authority to
trample on serpents and scorpions,
and over all the power of the enemy,
and nothing shall by any means
hurt you. NKJV
